Pulaki Temple, known as Pura Pulaki, is a picturesque sea temple located on the north-west coast of Bali, near the village of Singaraja. Nestled on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean, Pulaki Temple is renowned for its breathtaking views and spiritual significance. It is one of the key temples in the area, often associated with the Balinese Hindu community's deep connection to the sea.
The temple is believed to date back to the 16th century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and regeneration. It is characterized by its stunning traditional Balinese architecture, with intricately carved stone structures adorned with offerings and vibrant decorations.
One of the unique features of Pulaki Temple is its resident population of monkeys. These monkeys, often seen roaming freely around the temple grounds, are considered sacred and are believed to protect the temple. Visitors are advised to be cautious with their belongings, as the monkeys are known for their playful and sometimes mischievous behavior.
Pulaki Temple is particularly popular during the Melasti ceremony, a purification ritual held before the Hindu New Year, when thousands of devotees gather to perform rituals and offerings at the temple. The temple’s location on the cliffs offers a stunning backdrop for these ceremonies, with the ocean waves crashing against the rocks below.
Visitors to Pulaki Temple can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere while taking in the natural beauty of the surroundings. The temple's serene environment, coupled with the spectacular ocean views, makes it a perfect spot for reflection and appreciation of Bali's spiritual heritage. Whether you are seeking a spiritual experience or simply want to enjoy the stunning coastal scenery, Pulaki Temple is a captivating destination on the island.
The Turtle Hatchery of Pemuteran in the utmost west of Bali started in 1994 after Australian Chris Brown, the owner of a diving company in the area, bought a sea turtle from a local fisherman who caught the animal in one of his nets by accident, to save its life; the turtle was tied to a rope and let out to graze in the sea during the day, and at night brought into a small pond. A second turtle soon joined the first and thus the Turtle Hatchery Project became a fact.
Pemuteran Bay is one of the hidden gems of Bali. A place with beautiful scenery, award winning coral reefs and a serene beach far away from the hustle and bustle of South Bali. The perfect place to see a still unspoiled Bali that offers many unique experiences.
Pemuteran is ideal for nature excursions, trekking at the National Park, swimming, snorkelling & diving or exploring the sacred temples in the area. The Ijen crater on Java can be visited on a day trip and offers one of the most impressive sights in Indonesia.
Pemuteran is located in the North West part of Bali, approximately 3,5 hours drive from the Airport in Denpasar. This route is one of the most interesting and scenic tours in Bali. Lovina is 45 minutes and it is about 20 minutes drive to Bali Barat National Park and Menjangan island diving site. The ferry to Java at Gilimanuk is 30 minutes.
